South Dakota ranks sixth in the nation for federal spending on preventative healthcare spending according to a new report issued by the Trust for America's Health. Based on data assembled by the federal Centers for Disease Control, the report looks at overall spending as well as efforts to prevent specific diseases and health conditions.

Scores on the ACT test provide an indication of how well school districts are preparing students for college. In general, students in larger districts in the region are beating state and national averages, but smaller, rural districts are struggling.
