Second Legislative Crackerbarrel Held in Rapid City

The second legislative crackerbarrel of the session was held at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Legislators fielded multiple questions regarding proposed immigration and driver's license requirement bills.

Representative Lance Russell announced he will attempt to revive House Bill 1238, which penalizes business owners who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. HB 1238 was tabled by the Commerce and Energy committee last week.

Senate Bill 118 would abolish the need for multiple forms of identification when receiving a driver's license and also would prevent license information from being stored in a central database. The bill was moved to the 41st day of the session, which essentially kills it. At the crackerbarrel, co-sponsor Senator Stan Adelstein promised to revive the bill.
