Crime Statistics

The Office of Attorney General, Division of Criminal Investigation compiles South Dakota crime statistics on an annual basis and reports these numbers to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In November 2010 the state issued Crime in South Dakota 2009. The report includes aggregated data on all types of crimes, as well as demographic information on offenders and victims of crime by gender, race and age. The report also includes reports from each municipal police department in the state detailing the number of reported incidents of specific crimes during the year.

What is 211?
2-1-1 is the three-digit telephone number assigned by the Federal Communications Commission for the purpose of providing quick and easy access to information about health and human services. Professional Information and Referral specialists work with callers to assess their needs, determine their options and a best course of action, then direct them to appropriate programs/services, provide support, intervene in crisis situations and advocate for the caller as needed.  2-1-1 is currently available to 80% of residents in the United States.  In South Dakota, 2-1-1 is available to residents in the Sioux Empire, Rapid City, Sturgis, Northern Hills and Southern Hills areas.  Outside these areas, dial (605) 339-4357.
